Individual Note: Or married in NJ. Came to West to Central City, CO as a bride age 22, just in time to take part in the rebuilding after the big fire of 74. Lived in Mountain City, Co. which is between Central city and Blackhawk. The Gregory Gulch Gold Strike of 1859 was very near their home in Mountain City and Philip always thought there was gold in his back yard. In 1934, during the depression, a man bought the mineral rights to the land for $5.00. She had to let the property revert to Gilpin County for taxes. This man then dug and placered the soil and made a few dollars a day in gold recovery to enable him to live through the depression.
She died at 93 having outlived all but her eldest daughter. Frank Leroy died of diphtheria as a small boy. Richard Gordon had been electrocuted in an accident in Victor, Co and Sarah Lillian died of cancer at 48. She helped care for her two grandchildren Edna and Edgar Warren, from their birth and took over raising them when Lillian died. She kept house for the family until she was 88 years old then went to live with daughter Laura.
She wore a narrow neckband of black velvet and every afternoon after housework was done, she dressed up and recieved friends or went visiting for tea. Being a staunch Methodist, the only card game allowed was "flinch" and no picture shows on sunday.
