Osborn’s Blog, ralphwaite@familycousin.com

To begin a blog with the subject of ancestry it is necessary to have an audience of interested readers.

Hopefully you are one of those. If you are a curious cousin, welcome and please email me

Sandy Creek NY was a nice place for an Osborn family.

the New York Osborn family came  from Ashford

A Waterville Mystery solved --- see map below

This part of Osborn family must have known our side

because the distance between home is so small.

There is more ancestry information on the internet today for

Osborn than Waite names.

Perhaps this is because the Osborn Clan had more numbers.

The immigration links back to England are a bit confusing with so many stories surrounding the Osborns..

We will start with Ashford Kent UK and end up in

Depauville and Sandy Creek NY in Jefferson County.

Dexter's father was Schuyler S. Osborn b 1800 in Herkimer Co, NY.

Schuyler's father was Phineas O. Osborn b 1760 Suffolk Co, NY. He moved to Herkimer C0 and lived in German Flatts, Depauville, Elm Flats, Brownville, Orleans, Clayton, Jefferson Co NY.

Phineas O.'s father was Phineas Osborn b 1735 Cheshire, New Haven Co, CT.

Phineas' father was Ephraim Osborn b1690 in Hartford CT. or East Hampton, Suffolk Co, NY. He lived in NH, Newtown, Cheshire, Southbury, CT.

Ephraim's father was Ephraim Osborn b 1666, Hartford, CT. or East Hampton, Suffolk Co, NY.

Ephraim's father was John Osborn b 1631 Ashford, West Ashford, Kent, England. He immigrated and lived in East Hampton Long Island, NY and died in Wainscott, Suffolk Co NY or Wainscott CT.

John's father was Thomas Osborn b 1594, Ashford, West Ashford, Kent, England. Lived in East Hampton Long Island Suffolk Co, NY.

Thomas' father was Jeremy Osborn b 1570 and d 1620 in Ashford, West Ashford, Kent, England.

Jeremy's father was Thomas Osborn b 1550 d 1611in Ashford, West Ashford, Kent England.

Thomas' father was Peter Osborn b 1521 Ashford, West Ashford Kent England. We presently are finish stopped with Peter here.

It is interesting that the Waite and Osborn origins were so close in England.

Schuyler Osborn   Newspaper clipping dated Sept. 20,1879 Depauville News

Our community was startled and shocked on the morning of Sept. 20,(1879)
by the sad intelligence that Schuyler Osborn, one of the first settlers of the town
    of
Clayton, had terminated his existence by taking poison.  It is one of the
strangest acts on record. He assigned no reason for committing the rash act
except that he was too old: could do no good and wanted to die.

He was nearly seventy-nine years old, was hale and hearty as he always had
been.  He ate a very good breakfast in the morning.  The cool and deliberate
manner in which he arranged his business and the letters which he wrote to his
children and friends showed that this was no act of insanity.  After washing and
shaving himself and changing his clothes he took the fatal drug and laid down
on his bed about ten o’clock.  He was alone at the time, his wife being away at
her daughter’s.  From what he wrote her she learned that he expected to be
dead when she came back, but it appeared that he recanted so far in his plan that
he sent for her at about eleven.  He told her what he had done: that he wanted
to die:  he had lived long enough, and all that he was afraid of was that he had
vomited so much that it would not do the job.  Dr. E. L. Frame  was summoned
at once, who tried to have him take something to relieve him, but he
stubbornly refused to take anything.  He told Dr. F. that he had prepared the
poison last year when he put Paris Green on his potatoes, and he had put a small
quantity in a vial and filled it with alcohol and kept it in his barn ever since.
He would not tell the Doctor what he had done with the vial, but it was
subsequently found in the weeds in front of his bedroom window.  A large
number of friends and neighbors attended his funeral at his residence on
    Monday.
